Pastor Philip Yaw Ofosu
I was born on 24 February 1966 to Opanin Kwaku Agyapong and Maame Abenaa Gyau. My date of birth was the day some soldiers of the Ghana army overthrew the government of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, the first president of the Republic of Ghana. Although my parents were poor, they worked hard to enroll me in a primary school. My father died when I was young. At a certain point in my primary education my mother asked me to drop out of school to help her on her farm due to lack of cash to pay my fees. I did not like the idea so I went to the farm crying. One day a policeman met me on my way to the farm. I was crying so he enquired from my mother the reason. When he heard my story he provided money for my education. I used to sell firewood to supplement the money given by the policeman to pay my fees. My mother struggled to educate me till I graduated in 1996 from Tamale Polytechnic where I majored in Building and Construction. I became a Technical Instructor afterwards but I furthered my education at University College of Education, Kumasi campus, after which I became a professional technical teacher at some Technical and Secondary (Senior High) schools for fourteen years. While I was teaching I encountered some nightmarish dreams. There was time a snake bit me in a dream. When I woke up I sensed a burning sensation at the place the snake bit. In another dream someone shot me. On waking up from the sleep I felt a sharp pain at the place the bullet hit. To stem the spiritual attacks, I used my salary to visit twelve fetish shrines but the experiences became worse. I became indebted to many people so I decided to commit suicide. On my way to the spot where I intended to commit suicide I met a man who introduced me to Christ. I joined the Christ Apostolic Church in 1996 where my spiritual problems came to an end after much prayer and fasting. Two years later I left the church and joined Apostles Continuation Church. I resigned from my job in 2000 and plunged into serious Bible studies. I began seeing visions and became spiritually inclined. Leaders of the Apostles Continuation Church took interest in me and enrolled me at their pastoral training center. The then leader of the church, Apostle Emmanuel K. Owusu, took special interest in me and asked me to accompany him on his apostolic errands. He taught me many things about pastoral ministry before commissioning me to establish congregations of the church in the Republic of Cameroun. While in Cameroun I realized my limitations in Christian theology since I struggled to answer many theological questions some people asked me. I therefore left the ministry in Cameroun so as to enroll in a Bible College in Ghana. Senior ministers of the church, however, opposed my decision to enroll in a Bible school so I resigned from the church. With the help of my wife and a friend, I began a prayer ministry with 5 people under a big Cashew tree in Accra. Now the prayer ministry has become a church of over 150 members. We are no longer worshiping under the tree. I enrolled in a diploma of Theology program at the All the Gospel Theological College in Accra in 2003. On graduation, I enrolled at the Good News Theological College and Seminary in Accra in 2005. I am now a final year student studying for a Bachelor of Theology degree. I have not regretted enrolling at the Good News Seminary. The demands are high but enriching. I am married to Margaret. We have four daughters.
