Statement of Faith
WE BELIEVE:
GOD
In the one God, creator and sustainer of all things, perfect in love and judgement, always gracious and merciful. God exists eternally in three persons- Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
SCRIPTURE
In the Scripture of the Old and New Testaments as the inspired Word of God, the only rule and norm for Christian faith and practice, the final authority in all matters relating to faith and life.
HUMANITY
That human beings were created in the image of God. This image was ruined in every part through the disobedience of our first parents, and fellowship with God was broken. All human beings are under the wrath and judgement of God and are unable in any way to please God or earn his favour, and are therefore destined for eternal punishment, unless they are saved by grace through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.
JESUS CHRIST
That Jesus Christ is true God, Son of the Father from all eternity, and true man conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He died on the cross for all, taking in his person the punishment for all sin; he was buried and on the third day he rose bodily from the grave; he ascended bodily to the right hand of the Father where he intercedes for us. He alone is Lord and Saviour.
HOLY SPIRIT
That the Holy Spirit is sent by the Father and the Son to work faith in all believers; to convict, teach, regenerate, enable, empower and equip the people of God for effective ministry and righteous living.
SALVATION
That God by grace declares righteous and holy all those who trust in Jesus Christ as the Scriptures tell us: "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith- and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God- not by works, so that no one can boast" (Ephesians 2:8,9 NIV). There is no other way to salvation and acceptance by God.
THE CHURCH
That the church is one, holy, universal and apostolic; the people of God composed of all those who believe in Jesus Christ as Saviour and Lord. The Church is Christ's body, it is visible in the world wherever believers, in obedience of faith, hear the Word, receive holy baptism and partake of the Lord's Supper, and live as disciples.
RETURN OF CHRIST
In the personal, unexpected, sudden and glorious return of Jesus Christ, in the bodily resurrection of all persons, in final judgment, and in eternal reward and punishment.
GOD'S VICTORY
In the final victory of God over Satan and all evil and the establishment of his perfect kingdom in the new heaven and new earth.
